Beginnings
Our story began in 1990, inside a small family-run hardware store in Cashel, County Tipperary. It was here that Michael D’Arcy laid the foundation for MD Lock and Key, driven by a passion for craftsmanship and a vision for the future of security. At a time when locksmithing was a traditional trade,
Michael embraced innovation by investing in one of Ireland’s first electronic computerised key-cutting machines. What started as a small-town locksmith service soon grew into a trusted name in security, built on expertise, precision, and an unwavering commitment to our customers.
Evolution.
As demand grew, so did we. In 2002, MD Lock and Key opened its first dedicated store on Emmet Street, Clonmel, offering computerised key-cutting technology and high-security mechanical locking solutions.
By 2007, we had expanded into a purpose-built facility complete with offices, a warehouse, a workshop, and a showroom allowing us to better serve our commercial, industrial, and domestic clients across Tipperary and beyond.
But the future of security was evolving, and so were we.
Technological Transformation.
Michael’s son, Killian, grew up in the business, learning firsthand what it meant to deliver trusted security solutions.
But he also saw an opportunity, technology was transforming the industry. With a keen interest in smart technology, he traveled to many countries around the world, training with industry-leading manufacturers and establishing strong partnerships with global innovators like Simons Voss Technologies and Verkada.
Rather than simply adapting, we decided to lead.
Integrated Security.
In 2021, we launched Integrated Security, a specialist division focused exclusively on delivering the best Smart Security technology. Our mission was clear, to go beyond traditional security and provide intelligent, seamless solutions tailored to modern businesses and industries. We didn’t want to be everything to everyone, we wanted to be the best in our field, offering sector-specific solutions that redefine security in the digital age.
